CLCOA Guidelines Regarding Requests for Funding for Litigation and Related Costs
The following guidelines have been developed to help assist CLCOA members with their request for financial assistance from the CLCOA. Please note that in general terms the litigation must be in the overall interests of the entire CLCOA.
A formal request for funding must be submitted in written form and include the following information:
1. A detailed explanation of the purpose of the funding request.
2. Names of all the group members requesting funding. All members of the group must be paid up members of the CLCOA.
3. Amount of funds requested.
4. A copy of the preliminary budget
5. Name of lawyer involved (if applicable)
Please be advised that:
1. The group should be prepared to provide regular and full reports to the CLCOA Board and CLCOA membership
2. The CLCOA Board may request a current Board member be a part of the steering group requesting the financial assistance.
3. The group should be prepared to allow full transparency including sharing of all related documentation.
4. If, upon review, the CLCOA Board supports the request for funding, a funding recommendation shall be referred to the CLCOA membership for consideration and vote.
5. Payments will be made only upon receipt of the original invoices.
If the request for funding is recommended by the CLCOA Board and approved by the membership, at minimum a written report and presentation will be required at the Spring Meeting and Annual General Meeting in each year the funding approval is in effect. The frequency of interim reports to the CLCOA Board is to be negotiated.
If the request for funding is not recommended, the request can be made again to the CLCOA Board only if there has been a change in circumstances.
